Per-engine share is the breakdown of your citation share across each AI engine separately. The engines have different retrieval pipelines + ranking weights + content preferences; a site that wins on Perplexity may underperform on Claude. Understanding per-engine performance reveals which optimizations are universal vs engine-specific.

A SaaS brand: 18% cite rate on Perplexity, 12% on ChatGPT, 24% on AI Overviews, 9% on Claude. Diagnosis: weak on Claude. Investigate.

How to optimize

Track per-engine separately. Find queries where one engine cites you and another doesn't. That's the leverage point. Engine-specific fixes: schema for AI Overviews, BLUF for Perplexity, structural depth for Claude.
