AI visibility score

Composite metric combining cite rate, position, and query coverage — the AEO industry-standard KPI.

Definition

AI visibility score is a composite metric most AEO tools (Profound, AthenaHQ, Peec, VectorCite) calculate as the headline KPI. Typically: cite_rate × position_weight × query_coverage. Different tools weight differently. VectorCite's open rubric publishes the formula explicitly; closed-rubric tools compute it opaquely.

Example

On a tracked basket of 50 queries: cited in 12 (24% cite rate), average citation position 2.1 (weight 0.8), coverage 24% × 0.8 = 19.2 visibility score.

How to optimize

Pick a tool that exposes the formula. Optimize the input metrics (cite rate, position) rather than the composite. The composite is a reporting metric, not an optimization target.
